How is Manuka Honey produced?
Manuka Honey is produced by the flower of the Manuka tree which secretes nectar only under certain conditions. Manuka Honey has a complex earthy flavour and rich aroma. It contains a complex range of natural compounds including amino acids, vitamins B and C, antioxidants, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates and other nutrients.
New Zealand mānuka honey is produced by bees collecting nectar from the mānuka plant and then bringing in back to hive to be ripened and then stored in wax cells and then capped when the bees have ripened it enough. (Manuka honey's antibacterial properties are what set it apart from traditional honey. It contains methylglyoxal as an active ingredient, likely responsible for these antibacterial effects.
